Local League Gets TV Deal for Olympic-Format Lacrosse Sixes
Founded in 2023 and with two seasons completed, the Sixes Prize League, an Olympic-format six-on-six lacrosse production, gets a television deal.
The same TV channel with rights to broadcast the United Soccer League’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the same TV channel that features the weekly primetime WPIAL high school football and basketball games now airs three matchups of prize money, semi-pro Lacrosse Sixes to the greater Pittsburgh region.
Fox WPGH’s sister station and home to the CW cable network, 22 The Point and the Sixes Prize League join for a broadcast partnership that includes promotion and airing three games on Saturday nights from 11 p.m. to midnight. Those games are the SPL Turkey Bowl on November 30, a game from the SPL semi-finals on December 7, and the SPL championship game on December 14, 2024.
This effort between 22 The Point and the SPL marks the first time non-interscholastic lacrosse will be broadcast on regional television in Pittsburgh since the days of the National Lacrosse League’s Pittsburgh Crossefire in 2000.
Featuring local past and present lacrosse stars and players with professional and NCAA experience, the Sixes Prize League awarded $4,500 in total prize money to the championship-winning players during seasons one and two.
Season three of the Sixes Prize League begins on Wednesday, November 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Viewers can stream each game live with a play-by-play commentator at SixesPrizeLeague.com, on a SmartTV and during the designated games on 22 The Point or at www.22thepoint.com/watch.
