NCAA Players Choose SPL For Offseason; Sinatra & Istik Law Office Supports SPL’s “Justice League” Team; La Roche University Grows The Game
A lacrosse program 10 miles outside of Pittsburgh just finished its Fall Ball programming. But, the players of the Catholic liberal arts college La Roche University are hungry for more lacrosse before their regular collegiate season starts in January.
“I thought about playing in a few club tournaments in Europe this Winter. But SPL is right here in Pittsburgh. And the level of play is probably more similar to what we’ll see in the NCAA this Spring,” Alston Boyle, attackmen for La Roche, said. “The Sixes format made it really easy for a few La Roche teammates to form an SPL Team. And the SPL schedule is perfect for us— we’ll wrap up Sixes well before the Spring season gets started.”
This will be the first-ever SPL team with a roster complete with active collegiate players.
Predicated on tons of repetition, the SPL will give the Redhawk laxers serious reps to develop their skill and team chemistry. Lacrosse Sixes is the format on view in the 2028 LA Olympics, and it allows for a high volume of goals, touches, passes, saves, and opportunities to get defensive stops.
Additionally, the club gets support from Sinatra & Istik Law Office, PLLC, a local law firm, to form the Sixes team. Attorney Jill Sinatra dubbed the team “Justice League” for the Prize League season and described them as “dedicated, fearless and committed to each other, just like our team at S&I.” Support from a local business like Sinatra & Istik is a first for any SPL team.
La Roche Lacrosse prides itself on developing new lacrosse players. With several athletes on the team who’ve converted from other sports, LRU might be one of the only teams adding to the ranks of lacrosse players nationwide. Those players see the SPL and the Justice League as opportunities to develop. If Justice League wins the Sixes Prize League championship, they will not accept the league prize money.
“Once the coaches dismissed us for the Fall, it’s up to us to stay sharp until the Spring. Having 5 Sixes games under my belt will make a huge difference in my starting point next season,” noted Boyle.
